Frequently Asked Questions
[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row no_margin=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none”][vc_column width=”1/1″]
Chiropractic is a health care profession that manages disorders of both the musculoskeletal and nervous system, with a focus on spinal health. Just to list a few, chiropractic care is commonly used for managing these complaints:
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Joint pain
- Sciatica
- Headaches
- Poor balance & movement
Chiropractors are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises.
The spine is a sophisticated structure and in order for it to function well between normal routine and sporting activities, it is understandable that it needs a great deal of control. Due to over or under-use, spinal problems can often progress for a period of time without signs or symptoms, similar to that of tooth decay. These issues if not managed can lead to the loss of the intricate control system which our spine requires, causing unwanted injuries, joint restrictions, pain and extra burdens on an individual’s overall function.
“Spinal manipulation” or “chiropractic adjustment” is a gentle and controlled force that is manually applied to a restricted joint and has been known to exhibit certain benefits. These not only include the restoration of joint mobility and the alleviation of pain but also a positive impact on our nervous system and the control centre in our brain to restore control and function, thereby allowing our body to heal.
Whilst it is common practice for people to receive a referral before seeking alternative care, chiropractors are recognised as primary health care providers which means that you can simply make an appointment with us without getting a referral.
During pregnancy your body can sustain significant stress as it goes through many different changes. These stressors can present in the forms of lower back pain and general aches or discomfort. Thankfully, chiropractic has historically shown positive effects on such presentations during pregnancy as well as improving the labor experience and recovery in some cases.
Similarly, such positive effects have been known to be true in the extremes of the demographic. The vast range of problems that are often associated with babies (birth trauma and nursing difficulties) and in the elderly population (poor balance, stiff and achy joints) can often profit from chiropractic care. So no matter what stage of life you are in, it’s never too early or too late to discover the benefits that chiropractic care can have on your quality of life.
Your safety is our main concern. That is why we take great care in our initial consultation to ensure that we provide the most fitting management program based on our findings. Should your problem be something that is not within our scope of practice, we will redirect you to the appropriate specialty or medical professional.
For spinal manipulation itself, it has been recognised to be remarkably safe and non-invasive when used appropriately by a trained practitioner. This recognition is constantly strengthened by the growing body of research.
Ultimately, the safety and efficiency of any tool is dependent upon the foundation of knowledge in its application. Here at the Auckland Chiropractic Centre we are committed to continually building on this ladder of knowledge.
This is a short 15 minute discussion with one of our practitioners for you to find out if you are a suitable candidate for our services.
This consists of a thorough history and medical examination focused on your chief complaint. The findings should provide us with a level of clinical clarity of your condition. Moreover, in the absence of significant contraindications, the practitioner will carry out the necessary treatment indicated. The overall period of the consultation will vary between 45 ~ 60 minutes, depending upon the complexity of your case.
Should you need further investigation, we have Auckland Radiology Group just minutes down the road and a wide network of referrals that we work in conjunction with. We will in our best effort make sure you are passed onto the right people with as little hassle and confusion as possible.
